Who Needs Active Release Technique?
A.R.T. benefits numerous individuals with a wide range of conditions which includes carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, knee pain, shoulder pain, elbow pain, sciatica, and plantar fasciitis, just to name a few. Most commonly, an injury results from muscle overuse. The mechanism for injury occurs in one of three ways 1) acute/traumatic injury (sprain/strain) 2) an accumulation of small injuries (micro trauma), 3)and lack of oxygen to the soft tissue.
All three types of injury result in the same outcome, muscles fibers bundle up, and adhesions (scar tissue) form. The muscles shorten, lose elasticity, and added strain occurs at the tendinous junction. This ultimately leads to tendonitis. Nerves may become entrapped, ranges of motion are reduced and strength is diminished. The lack of oxygenated blood delays healing. A.R.T. is designed to break this cycle and restore normal soft tissue integrity and function. |
